First Quarter

• (Tennessee 7, Vanderbilt 7, 6:13) Vanderbilt marches 75 yards down the field to answer Tennessee’s opening touchdown. Wide receiver C.J. Duncan scored on a 9-yard pass from quarterback Kyle Shurmur.

Saturday’s Tennessee-Vanderbilt game is a big deal if the Volunteers are to avoid making dubious history.
Unless the Vols (4-7, 0-7 SEC) beat the rival Commodores, they will become the first Tennessee team to lose eight games and go winless in SEC play in a season.
The Vols will likely lean on standout tailback John Kelly, who has rushed for 758 yards and 8 touchdowns this season. Kelly also leads the team with 36 receptions. Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Jarrett Guarantano has thrown for 814 yards and 2 touchdowns since becoming the starter in Week 7.
Tennessee leads the all-time series 75-31-5, but the Commodores (4-7, 0-7) have won three of the past five meetings — including a 45-34 decision in Nashville last season.
While the Vols fired coach Butch Jones two weeks ago, Vandy coach Derek Mason might be coaching for his job in this game. The Commodores have lost seven of their past eight games, and Mason has a record of 17-31 overall and 5-26 in SEC games during his four seasons in Nashville.
Vandy tailback Ralph Webb ran for 55 yards and a touchdown last week against Missouri, becoming the ninth player in SEC history to top 4,000 career rushing yards. Commodores quarterback Kyle Shurmur has thrown for 2,540 yards this season, with 22 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
